Who doesn't like going to the beach, sailing, swimming or diving? The sea is a magical place, and has been connected to our symbolic world as humans in more ways than we can count.
However, deep down beath the white foamy waves, there is a kingdom of the bizzare and the horrific.
We've brought you some of the most creepy, scary and downright nightmarish creatures living underwater.
#1 Goblin Shark
This is a rare species of deep-sea shark, and is part of a 125-million-years lineage. It reaches around 4 Meters (13 ft) long when mature, though it can get even larger than that.
Usually found in depths greater than 100m (330 ft), with adults found deeper than juveniles.
#2 Giant Isopod
The Giant Isopod is a distant relative of shrimps and crabs, and is mostly found in the deep and cold parts of our oceans. They reach a maximum weight and length of approximately 1.7 kilograms (3.7 lb) and 76 centimetres (30 in) respectively.
They are of very little interest to commercial fishing, and are eaten mostly in Taiwan.
#3 Angler Fish
These fish got their name by the way they like to catch their prey; they have a fleshy growth in their head that acts as a lure.
They are found all over the world, while some live in the deep sea, some can be found much closer to the surface on continental shelves.
The most noticeable characteristic of the Viperfish are their long, needle-like teeth and hinged lower jaws. They will usually grow between 30 to 60 cm (12 to 23.5 inch).
They prefer to stay in the deep and are found mostly in tropical locations.
It's believed they catch their prey by reflecting light off of their organs and then devouring the victim.
#5 Black Swallower
This is a species of deep sea fish known for its ability to swallow fish larger than itself. The Black Swallower is capable of swallowing prey over twice its length and 10 times its mass!
It can be found worldwide.
